The famous journalist and writer Ota Pavel (his proper name was Otto Popper) spent his childhood in Buštěhrad and its surroundings. His first work to be published was a commentary to a book of photographs of V. Heckel entitled Mountains and People. A sports enthusiast (he played ice-hockey and trained the junior team of the Sparta Club), the author concentrated on this theme, first contributing sports stories to magazines and later switching to books Dukla Amidst Skycrapers, A Box Full of Champagne and A Fairy-tale about Raška. However, Ota Pavel`s most valuable and most moving works are the books The Death of Beautiful Roebucks and How I Met Fish, both adapted for the screen. In these works the author recalls his father Leo Popper, a Jewish commercial traveller who sold vacuum cleaners, and his own experiences connected with the River Berounka.
