Palacký University in Olomouc resumed its activities based on an act issued by the Interim National Assembly on February 21, 1946. The establishment was linked to a tradition started by the ancient Olomouc University founded in 1573 and abolished in 1860. Thus, we can rightly consider the Olomouc University the second largest establishment of its kind to be founded in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. At present, Palacký University in Olomouc consists of seven faculties (the Cyril and Methodius Theological Faculty, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Physical Education and the Faculty of Law), which are currently attended by more than 12,000 undergraduates.
